chomping

autechre style difficult drums. with a little more finesse than autechre. im not so much a fan of their deliberate nuking of rhythmn just for the sake of sounding other worldly, but this has just enough of it. extremely crisp and sharp percussion. the atmosphere is a little non-descript but the drums hold things up. gut schtuff

LJCoffee responds:

Never listened to much Autechre - in fact, I might have heard a song or two but that's about it.

Yeahp - the atmosphere should probably sit still a little longer eh? It spans too many decades to comfortably fit into a 2 or 3 minute track..

film?

mysterious sounds to this one. sounds almost like a toy piano stuck inside a computer. would do for a market scene in this film your gonna make :) a sophisticated little loop, but a loop nevertheless.
smooch

LJCoffee responds:

Yeah - just a quickie... Actually it was just a few left over bits from other things - they never got used and so I threw them into a dish and gave it all a stir to see what would happen - At one point there were a few bars that sounded alright so they got stripped out and turned into this little loop.

So many people have been bitching about wanting to see more loops on NG so I figured what the hell...

I might have to disagree with you on the scores though - a 6 for effort is WWWWWWWWAAAAYY to much... I'd go with a 3. :D

stuff

hehe, another one i like from the offset. that melody brings a smile to my face, despite the fact that its trying to climb through all those effects. oh, its gone. nevermind. slick drums. like the granular clangs and stretches. the ambience is a little non descript but the drums hold it atm. subtle female vocals. a suitably sci-fi little number. you should get into film.
not a bad one.

LJCoffee responds:

This is the second time that you've mentioned the atmosphere or ambience being a little non-descript... I guess I do that alot huh... I don't know - I sort of like the mixed veg approach - some of this some of that - some other shite that probably shouldn't belong but damnit it really should fit... Where the hammer?

Get into film eh? - well, I guess I'll have to talk to a few people about that.

Thanks!

nice one

the very very intro, was sweet. sharp and surprising. i like this track already. the 'hi-hat' part suits it nicely. sounds very wet and squelchy. in terms of style this is rural, almost native american sounding track. WAHEY and its got a 3rd section, really like that percussive trickle thing. and the thunderclaps kicks. i think this take top spot for me out of the ambient tracks of yours. could have done with more build up perhaps a higher more elevated melody to come in at a peak in the track. very nice anyway. 9!

LJCoffee responds:

Thanks - this piece was originally intended to be wwwwaaaaayy longer but at some point I decided to chop it down and submit it - I'd probably still be working on it if I didn't... Once it was chopped up I'm sure that it lost something but.. well... that's how it goes.

gimme more

:D comb filter bounceyness. from the outset this sounds like one of your most full tracks. im only a short way in but i hope this will go the distance and build up and up. your production as ever is extremely good but a consistant fault i have with your tracks (sorry if i sound like a twat)is that they often build to a short way into a loop and dont ever take claim a space in time. theres no journey from start to finish, its more a journey from start to loop. just an observation. this is still a very beautiful track. /flinch

LJCoffee responds:

comb filter bounceyness eh? You want a copy of the .rns to see how it was put together?

Consistent fault - I don't mind the criticisma t all - it helps alot - and I hardly think you're a twat for saying what you think. - Building up too short into a loop is definitely what happens with alot of this stuff.

Earlier on, it seemed that you really only had a few seconds to hook people before they just said "fuck it" and voted zero, so I got into that habit of trying to get into it as quickly as possible - plus so many people have cried about how there should be more loops on NG blah blah blah - anyways - I developed a few bad habits and I guess they just sort of stuck - I'm trying to break them though

:D

venezuelan blinds

nice glitchy breaks, very reminiscent of venetian snare in styles. although the loose ambient guitar helps to bring it more in line with your production style. not a bad little ditty :)

LJCoffee responds:

venezuelan blinds ha ha... nice...

Very quick and dirty piece. Like that crappy guitar in there? not too bad I guess - considering that it was both completely synthetic and played "live" along with the rest of the track.

haunt

futuristic tones in this track. the high melody is very haunting, works well. interesting little jam, although i guess thats all it was. nice ambience once again

LJCoffee responds:

I still maintain that I had very little to do with the creation of this... I was completely whackup up on cold meds and this is just sort of what happened. Maybe I should get sick more often... sick as in - not feeling well - flu - not sick as in "that mash-up was so sick" - well you know what I mean... or do you?

yep

slightly regal and ethnic at the same time, i guess that could be the oompah style horn/bass. all the parts work nicely together and build up well. although i cant help wanting a nice beat to drop in.
u know....it really ties the room together.

anyways, solid track. expect the second section to get stolen by some skanky lil r'n'b byatch for her next studio album. gg

LJCoffee responds:

skanky rnb bitches.... >:(

I caught some shit for this one - my gf made fun of me and asked if I had some Tim Burton fetish...

I really was thinking about adding some massive angry double-tempo beat but just didn't do it... The, of course, your pal Ped decided that it would sound much better with the "LJCoffee licks balls" clip... :D

I loved his mix though - I'm sure you've heard it.

portishead?

eek dont really like the sample pack snare in the beginning although it does work with the bass. sounds like a combination of listening to too much portishead and ur usual production stylings. i think its the stall on the bass at the end of the bar. all u need is a female vocal and ur practically there :)
nice gentle ambience tho, i like this one.

LJCoffee responds:

You pretty much called it - very Portisheady and I didn't have any vox to put in there at the time.

I might remix this one though - there was supposed to be a video in progress for it somewhere.... I'll have to check on that...

beef

juicey tekno drums theyve got some really crunch to them. that kick is beef on a stick etc. extremely crisp production. ooooo and some nice scratching just came on aswell. very smooth u swine :)im sure this would have the dirtysuckers hopping around like frogs in a heatwave. goodwork

LJCoffee responds:

Nice!

Beef on a stick eh? This was a fun chunk to make. I may make a few more like it later on.

Not much to say, i joined NG to try and promote my music, so please check it out. http://www.newground..698445&sub=57981 thanks
