an interesting change from your other previous tracks. it didnt do particularly much but it was all round good anyway. the flanged drums sounded excellent. nice subtle touch.

LJCoffee responds:

Thanks - this isn't one that I pay much attention to really - Once again - this was in response to the bitching about the lack of loops on NG...

On it's own it's not too bad I suppose but I really can't imagine the song that something like this would have been pulled from ya know?

chinee

very slyly done indeed. a nice blend of the 2 cultures, as though u had snuck your PC into a temple and played along to some scene from crouching tiger / hero. slick work getting the drums and 'guitar' part sync'd up seemlessly. no evidence of cutting and slicing at all. also liked the bongo-esque part that came in towards the 2nd section. smooth motherf*cker :)

LJCoffee responds:

I loved this one - it was fun - It works both ways - So many asians are enamoured by the western hip-hop culture and so many ghetto-ass mo-fo's just can't get enough of the really shitty dubbed chinese movies - :D

I was trying to do my part to bring the two together.

:D

tek NO

techno with a coffee twist. certainly not the usual god awful trancey i try so hard to avoid. simple and nice loop.

LJCoffee responds:

I hear ya - I have a distaste for the sugar-coated trancy-flakes myself.

boards?

nice a-tonal synthline bobbing along, and the beat is nice and solid. ive got a feeling my sound system is about 10x too bassy cos this track filled my entire room with a sea of Hz. smooth flow, good work.

LJCoffee responds:

A sea of Hz... nice :)

It's probably not your system - it's probably a less than wonderful mix - There's probably just way too much on the low end that I didn't catch or try to correct.

Meh - whatcha gonna do right?

windy

still under the influence of what? mother's acid?

i like the intro bass, with windchime style plinks and plonks. massive atmosphere to this one, the drums keep it moving along nicely as things start too fill up. the ambience is perhaps a little too non-descript. it didnt seem to go anywhere. production tight as ever though :)

LJCoffee responds:

heh... Still under the influence of... well - by now I'm sure that you've heard "under the influence" and this is just a remix... I'm not sure that it's any better - just differnet.

I've noticed that a common criticism - from you at least - is that it doesn't go anywhere or that it seems to lack direction.

This is absolutely true in most cases - I guess a lot of this is sort of a slice of a state of mind kind of thing...

Part of the reason why, I think, is that I rarely start on a piece with a destination in mind - I usually sort of add as I go and end up with the results... I'm sure that if I sat down and made a few decisions about a track before I started then it might work a little better - at least as far as the structure and direction are concerned...

- No biggie - just another thing to keep in mind I suppose.

Thanks!

the intro sounds like a computer-person trying to load unsuccesfully underwater. whilst something is smashing into the side of the spaceship. and i mean that in the best possible way :) very cool disjointed vibe to this track. the mashed up vocals completes things very well. dirty dirty underwater loading robot.

LJCoffee responds:

Yeah sort of an industrial fell to this one I think. Just another in a series of taffytracks.
That's what I'll start calling them anyways.

Here's an impromptu taffytrack recipe:

Dump a pile of samples into a bowl

Start pulling, kneading, stretching and blending until you see some sort of cohesion.

Put the whole mess on the automatic stretcher and let it process for a while - then you export it as an mp3 and upload it...

:D

the crispy percussion sounds great. and the growling bass is juicey.

i wasnt so keen on the piano&chord section it moved into. it seemed to lose its attitude a bit. the production as with alot of other tracks of yours is v good. The industrial feel of the beginning i really liked.

LJCoffee responds:

A few peeps didn't seem to care for the piano bits... that's why it was remixed.

We're getting into older tracks here that were made on slightly older equipment - anything from this time is difficult really - a lot of it was mastered through cans and so it loses something when played back on externals.

latindub

ooo latin dub, very strange. smooth mood to this one. the wailey synth is nice too. nice rhythmical changes, the first step up to doubletime makes the bassline roll really nice. then the break back to a blockrocking sort of beat is subtle but effective.

same criticism for this as for alot of yours. nice loop but not too much progression. nonetheless a really solid loop.

perhaps a little too much reverb washing around?

LJCoffee responds:

:D

Well - there were plenty of mistaked in there - glitches (the UNintentional kind) and what-not.

Not a huge fan of this track.

blarg

the half time sections i really enjoyed, strong groove and nice clangy synth sounds. the muffled stabs combined with the reverse pad works well. when the dnb beat came in and it doubled up nothing seemed to happen to it. could do with either changing up into more of a fully fledged dnb track or being 100% halftime, the break out back to halftime was very nice to i'd be inclined to try both. certainly a good idea that needs exploring, slick indeed.

LJCoffee responds:

Yehhh... sort of a wanna-be matrixy piece I guess... so many people were doing it - I just wanted to be one of the cool kids you know? haha :D

weird

very strange intro i really couldnt place what mood u were going for, but thats definately a good thing. the bassline has a sort of drumnbass clubby feel to it while the background melody is something totally different. reminds me of the way 'classical music' drifts easily between happy sad dark light etc.

only thing i didnt like was the snare in the hook. it sounds far to fake and sticks out quite a bit. dont really know what to suggest, perhaps not so many [] short cuts on the snare.

otherwise a very nice track.

LJCoffee responds:

Ahh yes - one of the first things up on NG from my end... I had just finished listening to a bunch of EZ Rollers stuff and I guess I was sort of influenced by that.

Made on headphones - I didn't get to appreciate how bad the mix was on speakers until a while later...

Not much to say, i joined NG to try and promote my music, so please check it out. http://www.newground..698445&sub=57981 thanks
